The Impact Of Vision Of Love

Mariah Carey has set the standards for female musicians in more way than none, and that impact is definitely evidant in the many female singers that has taken inspiration from her. Vision Of Love had a significant impact on her career because it was the first song she had ever released, and for it to be the first song she ever released, she definitely made everybody know that she was a force to be wrecken in the pop community. Vision Of Love had more then one factor to it that made it amazing. It had multiple factors that made it amazing.
“It has been credited with popularizing the use of melisma in contemporary popular music and for inspiring several artists to pursue a music career.
Some people that has taken inspiration from Mariah Carey’s melismic singing is Tori Kelly, Ariana Grande, Morisette, and many others, but when it comes to the impact on music in general, she has impacted almost everybody in the pop community. But just because melisma is the only thing that is mentioned does not mean that the rest of her vocals do not shine because believe me they shine and stick out more than everything.
Her voice on this song is soulful. It has every single aspect of great vocals in this song. Her belting on this song is excellent, the range in this song is definitely amazing and captivating when you first hear it. She goes all the way from a low-note of E♭3 to the high whistle note of C7. And the difficulty in this song is something different. The beginning of the song is soft and dreamy, and then she moves into something more powerful. Which is what makes this song more special to me.
This is the song that she rarely lipps in her live performances. It’s truly one of her songs that she takes seriously and she wants to make sure the audience knows this, and people underestimate the true power of this song because it is not an easy song to sing in any means, even she knows that song is not easy, and she somehow manages to murder the live rendition of that song every time she sings it .
Next is the songwriting, and man her songwriting is so underrated. I really think people do not understand how amazing her songwriting is.
The song’s lyrics and melody were written and composed by Carey, with Margulies, Miller, Klyce and Rip on the instrumentals. Lawrence and Walden produced the song, which heavily deviated from its original version on Carey’s demo. She was 17 when she wrote that song
At the young age of 17, Mariah Carey wrote her first #1 single, and I find the lyrics so fascinating to look at because of how well written the entire piece is. It’s truly like she is singing about her vision of love, even the title of the song name is very creative.
Treated me kind
Sweet destiny
Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me
It took so long
Still I believed
Somehow, the one that I needed
Would find me eventually
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
Truly a masterpiece of a song that needs to be appreciated more. In this verse, she is talking about how her lover treated her with the most love and upmost respect, but most of all, she is singing about her lover fulfilled the vision of love that she was trying to find in other people. Its crazy how you can tell so much when you analyze a single song.
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
Even though this section is so short and sweet, I do think it deserves to have a few words on it because of the message that it conveys. In this part of the song, Mariah Carey is singing about the vision thats he was struggling to find and how she finally finds that vision after so long. She is talking about how she chooses to be loved, hence her saying “I had a vision of love and it was all that you turned out to be.” Such an excellent part of the song that gets overlooked by a lot of people.
Prayed through the nights
Felt so alone
Suffered from alienation
Carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong
So I believed
And now I know I’ve succeeded
In finding the place I conceived
This is the second verse of the song, and just like everything else about this song, it is nothing but pure excellence. Mariah Carey surley knows how to convey very emotional messages in her song, and Vision Of Love is one of those songs that prove that fact. She is singing about how she has been waiting for someone that loved her and that she finally found him after waiting for so long. This is my favorite part of the entire song because her vocals really carried the message in this verse.
I’ve realized a dream
And I visualized
The love that came to be
Feel so alive
I’m so thankful that I’ve received
The answer that heaven has sent down to me
This is the bridge of the song and it is one of the most perfectly crafted bridges I have ever heard of in pop music. Mariah Carey is phenomenal at singing these difficult lines, and her singing those songs live are a main indication of that. In this part of the song she utilizes high belting, perfect melisma, and clear ennunciation to create a beautiful vocal line that really makes the next half of the song.
You treated me kind (yeah)
Sweet destiny (and you know that you did)
And I’ll be eternally grateful
Holding you so close to me (prayed through the nights)
Prayed through the nights (so faithfully)
So faithfully (faithfully)
Knowing the one that I needed
Would find me eventually (he would find me)
I like to call this part of the song the semi climax because its the part of the song where she really let the audience know how she is feeling and lets all of her passion out in one swift line. If you thought the second half of song was insane, then you have no idea how insane the finally is. She mixes almost every single part of technique she learned into this single line, and made it one of the most difficult climaxes to pull out in pop music ever.
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you turned out to be, yeah, mmm
And we all know the ending of the song and how fascinating it is. Even the final run was impecable. It truly is the ending of a song with a beautiful story about finding someone that completes your vision.

Wow… this took me 2 days to perfect. She has accomplished so much with only one song, and the album garnered just as much success as the song. I might do a breakdown on her best albums and ironically, there is a song that has a title in one of the songs in this sentence.
