Amy Winehouse was definitely a figure in pop music and is going to go down as one of the best female pop icons in the music industry. Her 2nd album “Back To Black” made everybodies heads turn. Even today, she manages to have eveyrbnody in shock because of her soulful singing and amazing lyrics. Amy Winehouse was a genius, and everybody that worked with her can tell you the same thing. She was passionate with her art and she knew the story she wanted to tell when she was making it. It was devestating to see her go at such an early age, but her life is the staple for everybody else’s lives in pop music, and we thank her for that.

Back To Black has got to be one of the best female albums ever released, and if not the best then one of the best. It has sold millions of copies, and it made a staple for pop music and a turning point in her career. With this album you can feel the emotions running through the music because of the old school production and the very sad lyricism. But the one thing that shined about Amy was her voice that was unlike any other. She was not an ordinary singer, she had a unique twang to her voice that just made her voice shine in the darkness..

The meaning on the songs alone are insanely chilling, but to add the dramatic but artistic type of production behind it was like putting salt on a wound. It worked out, but at the same time if someone was going through the same thing she was going through, they would feel it heavily, and that was the magic of her voice. Even when she covered To Know Him Is To Love Him, she made that song sound like it was hers. And her ballads on that album were beautifully done. Especially Love Is A Losing Game which is personally one of my favorite songs of all time.

Her darker songs is where she shone in my humble opinion. Some Unholy War down tempo perfectly captured the essence of her voice. She stepped out of her comfort zone with this song because the slowed and lower pitch of the song makes it sound ominous and more chilling than the other songs on this album. I love that about this song because you do not see it coming. It comes as a shocker because you don’t know if someone can get dark, but she took it there every single time in every song and live performance.

Her tone was piercing but her delivery was smooth. It was really impossible to explain her voice to other people, you have to hear it in order to find out what her voice sounded like. In my personal opinion, I think she has one of the most soulful voices I’ve ever heard. Its a mix of beautiful but chilling at the same time. She is one of those artists that would have taken the world by storm if she was still alive, and her album being on the charts even when she died just tells me everything I need to know about the legacy that she left behind, and that legacy was bigger then ever.

If only she was a little bit mentally stronger and gave us another album because the way people are still loving her music tells me one thing, and that one thing is that she was truly one of a kind. She is still getting a good amount of streams on Spotify, and she still has over a million monthly listeners on Spotify, and that alone is impressive to me. She would have definitely popularized the jazz genre and could have revived the genre.

Raye is one artist that I think yall should check out if yall loved Amy’s music because her sound is very Amy like. Her cursive singing takes a lot of inspiration from Amy, and not to mention that her and Amy had the same problems, I really want Raye to tap into her element because she has the means to be the next pop queen, especially with such a heavy name under her belt. Not a lot of people can be compared to Amy Winehouse.

We love you Amy, thank you for giving us a banger of an album.
